As commissioners, I feel it has provided a valuable contract management tool that has enabled us to provide objective feedback each quarter to our service providers on their performance. This was shared across the South East and is viewed as an example of Best Practice with many other Local Authorities, such as Buckinghamshire, implementing a similar process. Stephen Pinel, Health Improvement Principal, Oxfordshire County Council
The NHS Health Check has been delivered by Oxfordshire GP Practices since 2011. Oxfordshire County Council wanted an individual practice report that could be circulated to all practices every quarter to show them their Year to Date achievement against target for the NHS Health checks programme. They also want to give them a financial incentive to reach their targets for the year.
They had also started to focus on the quality of the health check. To encourage consistency they wanted the report to include audit information showing what was covered during each health check to encourage compliance with national standards.
We worked with Oxfordshire County Council to create a dashboard designed for individual GP practice reporting which showed:
- The practice’s performance against targets for
health checks offered and given
- A comparison against the achievement of their
locality and CCG
- A quick calculator of what they had earned so
far and what they could earn if they closed the gap on their targets
- The % compliance of all aspects of the health
- The practice’s performance against targets for health checks offered and given
