A healthy nation is vital for a strong economy, boosting employment and productivity. Better health reduces the pressures on the NHS, social care, and other public services, supporting sustainability for future generations.
Prevention
We all want people to stay healthy, happy, and independent for as long as possible. This means reducing the chances of problems from arising in the first place, and when they do, supporting people to manage them as effectively as possible.
The green paper, Prevention is better than cure, advises the NHS and local authorities to put prevention at the centre of everything they provide.
Prevention means focusing on keeping people healthy and not just treating them when they become ill. And, if they do become ill, it means supporting them to manage their condition earlier and more effectively.
