Don't underestimate the role of great management and the importance it plays in enabling the PCN to deliver its vision.
At SCW we recognise that great leadership of Primary Care Networks (PCN) is essential. However, it is also vital that at the same time we don’t underestimate the role of great management and the importance it plays in enabling the delivery of benefits.
In essence, leadership is about getting people to understand and believe in the vision established by and for the PCN, and to work with the team on achieving the objectives. A good leader is adept at inspiration, motivation and influence, at taking people on a journey to the delivery of a vision.
This doesn’t mean a manager can’t be inspirational or motivational. They usually are and need to be to ensure that the goals and objectives underpinning a vision are achieved and that the day-to-day activities are happening as they should.
A PCN manager can release the clinical director from the operational aspects necessary to run a successful PCN. Allowing a manager to manage aspects of the PCN such as producing the performance and quality reports, developing standardised processes, supporting the staff through change, will create the capacity (both the time and mental resources) for clinical directors to develop relationships, forge new links and explore the art of the possible without hindrance.
We are clear that management needs to be empowered to act in order to support the PCN deliver its vision.
The SCW support offered to PCNs is based upon years of practical experience in supporting individuals and organisations through change. Our support is designed to deliver improved outcomes, new work practices and the shift in mindsets required to deliver sustainable change. Changes that last long after our direct work and support have ceased.
Our process offers our clients the opportunity to affect and manage long-term sustainable change. It underpins the PCN focus of improving health outcomes, reducing inequalities and enhancing patient experience while delivering value for money.
The Primary Care Team in SCW continues to provide support and direction to practices, Primary Care Networks and federations in working to successfully implement new care models, develop connections and work collaboratively within the Integrated Care System.
Our aim is to enable health and care systems to achieve the best possible outcomes for people, communities and populations
